DNAZaen stared at the floor next to his bed with a frown. He could do this. All right, he had failed last time. That was in the morning, though, and mornings seemed to be worse for him. Besides, his stomach ached from hunger pangs, and Dark had left the house, so he had no other recourse but to try this again.
Zaen glared determinedly at the floor for a moment. Then he swung his legs off the edge of the bed and stood up. He was victorious! ...Wasn't he? Blobs of color swarmed in front of his vision, blocking out most of the world around him. His head suddenly felt lighter than air. He took a cautious step forwards, floundering in the world of colors and heat, and finally collapsed.
Zaen rolled over to lie on his back, watching the colors wash out of his vision. There. The ceiling looked normal now. That was a perfect failure. He pulled his shirt up to uncover his stomach, hoping that would help him cool down. Well, at least he had tried. Maybe he had just stood up too quickly. His lungs c

Test Tube MermaidIt was completely dark in the science labs. Adam had come down in search for a document for Dr. Alvastein, and noticed that a soft greenish-yellow light shone from one of the doorways. He stuffed the papers unceremoniously into his backpack and walked into the room.

At first, he couldn't reconcile what he saw as reality. A huge tube stood in the center of the room. It reminded him of the incubation tubes from Avatar, only this one was vertical. Inside was a mermaid. Her gray eyes snapped to his as soon as he entered the room.

Another RainDark closed his eyes and breathed. The air smelled of leaves, dew, soil, and worms. It had rained around noon, and Dark had waited just long enough for the mud to harden a little before leaving for a midday walk. It rained a lot here, and Dark liked the smell of the air when the ground was still damp. It was... he didn't know. Nice.
Today Dark was taking a walk around the edge of the woods. This place was kind of cool. It was all nature—and pretty nature, not ugly like the Borderlands—and nobody even lived here. If Dark was a rich developer guy, he could build a bunch of houses out here and become insanely rich by selling them. But it was too nice to do stuff like that. The trees and grass looked better off undisturbed.

No wonder everybody thinks he's a girl.

I want to draw portraits of all my characters, since a lot of my pictures are old and outdated. Rose and Zaen especially are lacking good refs, so I plan on drawing them soon.

This portrait has a purpose beyond simply being a ref... but I won't tell you what it is.

I will try to make the next portraits a little more... well, artistic.

I'm considering pulling together a "how Luna does eyes" thing in case it's useful to any of you. If I were to make it, I would probably use the same process and principles that I used here. Is there any interest?
