Any tips for someone switching from anime to realism (much like that)?
Here are some things I've learned over time. You may already know them, but I'll just tell you as much as I can. You might want to sit back and get comfortable. It's going to be long.
—>While tracing isn't an ideal method for creating finished pictures, digitally tracing an image, discarding the tracing, and then trying to draw from the image can really help, especially when you're having difficulty drawing a certain spot.
I worked closely from a photo for this picture. I could never draw something like this from straight out of my head.

Another question that happened to pop up was when you said tracing the image. I'm more on the side of traditional art for realism (I prefer it over digital even if almost 90% of my deviations are digital) so could you possibly re-explain the arrow of your first bullet?
I'm sorry for asking even more, I really appreciate all the information you've given me.
