Tonight (Sol)
Sol has tiptoed halfway down the stairs when he hears his baba's voice from the living room. "I spoke with Mx. Ramirez over the phone. They think we should see a specialist."
"I don't know." Mama sounds frustrated. "I don't think there's anything wrong with him... he's just different. A little quirky."
"Honey... his teacher works a lot of kids. They have basic training to identify disorders in children. And our son..." Baba's voice cracks. "He's showing a lot of the signs. You remember the incident yesterday."
Sol sits frozen. His parents hadn't said anything when they brought him home early from school that day. They'd sighe

Tonight (Angel)
Angel's hands move slowly down the graphics tablet. She enjoys the cool feeling of the smooth plastic against the side of her hand. Her hands are her gateway to the world—tapping each freckle on Baba's arms, feeling the seams on Mama's prosthetic arm, running her hands through Sol's soft hair.
Mama says that everyone says "I love you" differently. Angel does it with her hands.
Angel bounces up and down on her exercise ball. Angel says "I love you" with her hands. Mama says "I love you" with presents and kisses. She brings Angel beautiful figurines for her setups, and because Angel can't handle kisses on her skin, she k

Tonight (Sol)
"The thing is, what Mx. Ramirez is saying makes sense," Baba is saying. "They pointed out some of the diagnostic criteria: unusual play, statue-like stillness, shallowness, fixation on social interactions, invasion of boundaries, weak or nonexistent passions, intolerance of others' needs."
"That sounds so... negative," Mama replies. "Our son can't be like that. He's different from that girl down the street." Sol can hear the grimace in her voice. "So what if he needs a little social help?"
"He needs a lot of social help," Baba says softly. "Do you remember how he behaved at the passion fair?"

Tonight (Angel)
Angel stands up and begins walking in circles. Her parents sound worried. She doesn't like it when people are worried. She gives them candies or flowers or hugs, and then they say thank you and smile. Even if she can't fix the big problems that made them worried in the first place, she can make the frowns fade.
But it is rude to interrupt.
Whenever two rules are in conflict, her social skills teacher says, imagine the consequences of each action you can take. The best action is the one that has the best consequences. So Angel takes time to imagine each scenario.
I draw a really happy picture and give it to my parents. They s

Tonight (Sol)
"I don't know how to manage this type of thing," Mama admits. "Wandering is healthy for children, and it wouldn't be reasonable for one of us to constantly follow him around. I don't like the logistics. Focusing on him all the time could lead us to neglect Angel."
"There's no problem we can't solve if we think deeply enough," Baba assures their wife. "We'll come up with an answer. For now, Mx. Ramirez is thinking... maybe he could be assigned an aide."
"An aide. That's not a big deal. Angel's friend Neo has an aide, to help him with anxiety and self injury. It's not too strange for a child to have an aide. An aide is somethin

Also yesterday (Miria)
Miria Blue sat in her workroom, pushing her swivel chair from side to side as she reviewed the figures. Numbers mutated and twisted in her mind, lining themselves up. Her eyes scanned the spreadsheet, mind visualizing each figure. All was as it should be.
Miria opened her email to send a report to her boss. There, she noticed an email from her spouse. Beck would never contact her when she was working, not unless it was important. Miria opened the email.

Next week (Beck)
Beck runs their fingers through Miria's hair. Miria is playing a game on her phone, and except for her fingers, all of her is still. Not good. Beck rocks back and forth, hoping Miria will start stimming too. Miria will need all the self-calming tools she can use, today.
Beck is preoccupying themselves by focusing on everyone else. On helping Miria be calm. On making sure Angel is fine. But of course she is. Angel is sitting on the floor, spinning toys side by side with a younger boy, who watches and giggles in delight. Angel is an easy child. Doing well in school, staying self-motivated, always finding things to do.

a Dimension 258 short story
Rosie picked up her clock again and stared at the numbers. When the big blue hand reached the 12, her daddy would come home. She furrowed her brow and squinted at the tip of the blue hand. Once, she had seen it move. But now it was stuck by the 10.
“Rosie, why do you keep watching the clock?” Leo asked. “Are you not having any fun building?”
Rosie set the clock next to her pile of toy bricks. “Today’s special day,” she announced. “Daddy’s bringing home a lady.”
“Ohh.” Leo raised his eyebrows. “He’s got a new girlfriend?”

Baking (A Crossover Fanfic)
Dusk crept up the sky with the rising moon, slowly enveloping the humid air. Leo climbed out of the car and looked up to see if any stars were out yet. No. Good. He hated working this late, especially on the day after Christmas, when he was supposed to be spending time with Sean. But the emergency had brought him in early and kept him in late, and he had no control over that. He just hoped that Sean wouldn't be too upset.
Leo locked his car and walked to the front door. He paused for a moment to rub his eyes. He should have gotten more sleep last night. The movie with Sean had gone too late, and then the phone call had woken him up early...
